In the fight against cancer, both patients and their loved ones feel a huge sense of helplessness. Cancer is everywhere. Fighting seems pointless. One in three Dutch people develop cancer. Everyone involved has first-hand experience of how dramatically their lives are affected and how destructive it can be.
Inspire2Live was created to empower people to convert the sense of powerlessness, caused by cancer, into one of strength. Inspire2Live is founded on the absolute belief that you can attain the greatest possible satisfaction by putting your heart and soul into helping others. Our motto is “Never, ever quit!” We refuse to accept any limitations in what we can and will achieve. We have a mission: To facilitate and inspire people to lead Happy and Healthy lives in Harmony with cancer. Peter Kapitein is President and Patient Advocate of Inspire2Live. He is the father of two sons, Milo and Jaron. Both sportsmen and two strong motivations in life for their father. Actually, they were the reason he could survive his severe treatments. Peter is also the husband of Marjolijn. Peter and Marjolijn have known and loved each other since 1983. Since 2005, Peter has lived with cancer and shown others that cancer does not have to be a death sentence, but can also be the start of a new and richer life, full of opportunities and beautiful people. A Happy and Healthy life in Harmony with cancer. Peter Kapitein is one of the initiators of Inspire2Live. What started as an initiative of 66 bikers who on one day (6-6-6) cycled up mount Alpe d'Huez six times, is now a huge event with 4,500 cyclists raising 20 million euros in 2011. A dream, an idea, a target. That’s what it is all about. To transform the most beautiful dream into action. To make the first step and see that others will make the next one. Once they get moving, the ultimate target immediately becomes visible and real. Besides as a sportsman, Peter also plays an active role in the organisation. Each year he gives some 100 talks about living with cancer and other cancer-related subjects. His audiences are not only cancer patients but also clinicians, scientists, nurses, business people and so on. Speaking either in Dutch or in English, Peter always inspires his audience and helps them do what they really want and what really matters to them. To do things that are about the most urgent question in life: ‘What do you do for other people?’ Peter is employed by the Dutch central bank, which facilitates him to work three days a week for the victory over cancer. His job enables Peter to be genuinely independent and to always choose for the patient. Patients first! Never ever quit!
