Carmela Caballero

carmela-caballeroDr. Carmela Caballero comes to the EORTC from Manila, The Philippines. She is a Diplomate of the Philippine Board of Surgery and trained at the Philippine General Hospital and Rizal Medical Center for General Surgery. As an EORTC Clinical Research Fellow, Carmela is involved in Quality Assurance in Surgery, and her current project is a collaboration project between EORTC and European Society for Surgical Oncology (ESSO). Her project is called CLIMB – A Prospective Colorectal Liver Metastasis Database with an Integrated Quality Assurance Program.

Previous Research experience – Presented at the European Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition Congress 2012 (Barcelona, Spain) research work on “Nutritional Assessment of Adult Cancer Patients admitted at the Philippine General Hospital using the Scored Patient Generated Subjective Global Assessment Tool (PG-SGA)”

Previous work experience – as a Clinical Associate for Surgery in Singapore General Hospital from 2013-2014 under the Department of Vascular Surgery and Upper Gastrointestinal Tract Surgery

Current projects at EORTC

  • CLIMB (as previously mentioned)
  • Participated in the protocol development and preparation of quality assurance for surgery guidelines for upcoming clinical trials in gastric cancer, malignant pleural mesothelioma and non-small cell lung cancer
  • On-going training for Data management

Plans

  • Pursue development of quality assurance tools for surgery through collaboration projects between EORTC and ESSO
  • Pursue subspecialty training in surgical oncology
