Stefanie Broes came to the EORTC in September 2014 from the KU Leuven, Belgium, where she earned both her Master of Biomedical Sciences, Magna cum Laude, and her Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences. During her education, she had the opportunity to follow lectures on management in the healthcare sector and in intellectual property rights, and with this experience she developed a strong interest in the rapidly evolving drug development landscape.
At the EORTC, Stefanie will address novel models of partnerships within the EORTC. The main focus of her work will concern EORTC’s SPECTA, Screening Patients for Efficient Clinical Trial Access, and the consequent opportunities for pan-European collaborations between industry, academia, regulatory agencies, patient groups and other major cancer organizations. Through such an innovative approach, the EORTC has cast itself in a leading role in redesigning the clinical trial landscape.
Stefanie’s EORTC Fellowship constitutes a PhD project. Dr. Denis Lacombe, EORTC Director, supervises her project at EORTC Headquarters, and Professor Isabelle Huys of the Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy at KU Leuven is her academic advisor.
