Quality of Life Officer

Scope of the Job

The Quality of Life Officer develops and fosters relationships between the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) and commercial users of EORTC Quality of the Life Group (QLG) Quality of Life Questionnaires.

Working directly for the Head of the Quality of Life Department (QLD), The Quality of Life Officer provides the highest level of customer service to incoming enquiries from commercial users. The Quality of Life Officer represents the central resource, main point of contact and the public face for industry users regarding the signing of User Agreements, the supply and use of the Questionnaires, translation and language queries, and all active QLG projects.

Main responsibilities / Major Activities

  • To provide commercial users with the appropriate documents and resources, including but not limited to scoring manuals, usage guidelines, Questionnaires, invoices, cost proposals, User Agreements, and translation project agreements and progress updates.
  • To record and file electronically all use of measures, including but not limited to all User Agreement information, financial interactions, study and contact details, correspondence, Questionnaire requests, and translation project funding from commercial customers.
  • To keep up to date with the development of modules as carried out by the members of the QLG, and with the development of translations of the Questionnaires.
  • To liaise internally on a regular daily basis with:
    • The QLD Quality of Life Specialist, regarding:
      Module development information
      Scoring advice
      Study design
    • The QLD Executive Assistant, regarding:
      Establishing whether requests are academic or industry related
    • The QLD Translation Unit, regarding:
      Information on available translations and translations in progress
      Queries about specific translations and/or languages
    • The QLG Treasurer, regarding:
      Activities relating to contracts and use of Questionnaires
    • The EORTC Contracts and Accounting Depts, regarding:
      Generation, negotiation, signature and recording of User Agreements
      Generation, recording and chasing of invoices
  • To liaise externally with translation agencies, regarding:
    • New and ongoing translation project requests and timelines
    • Invoices

Other Responsibilities

  • To support the Quality of Life Group’s Newsletter Editor in managing the publication of the annual Newsletter, including corresponding with contributors, designers and printers, and carrying out proofreading and distribution.
  • To take minutes at monthly QLD and biannual QLG meetings (some travel will be involved for the latter).
    CRM (Customer Relationship Management) tasks such as organizing and chairing teleconference calls, keeping records and negotiating between EORTC and commercial clients


  • Ideally with an undergraduate degree in a related subject (Psychology, Social Sciences…)
  • Understanding and/or experience in psychology, psychosocial oncology or psychometrics is an asset
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate with diverse individuals and groups. Fluent in English (spoken and written)
  • Very high level of customer service
  • Excellent organisation skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
