Pathobiology Group meeting

Venue: Rotterdam, The Netherlands

This meeting will be dedicated to John Foekens, who will retire from the group at this meeting.

Prof. Dr John Foekens, Department Medical Oncology, Erasmus MC, Rotterdam, is biochemist and is an active member of the PBG since around 1988 (Receptor biomarker group before 2006). He has been steering committee member of the group for the last two decades, he has published (from a total of over 300) around 50 peer reviewed manuscripts with various members of the group including many in high ranking journals such Lancet, Nature, JNCI and JCO. As PI or co-PI he received various grants for translational research with our group (BioMED1/2, DNA methylation, BASIS). He, together with several other members of our group, has been responsible for the biomarkers uPA/PAI-1 being listed in the current St Gallen guidelines as Level 1 prognostic markers for lymph-node negative breast cancer. Without doubt he is one of the most influential and most productive members of our group since the group was initiated in the late 1970s.
