Free webinar: “I have Metastatic Breast Cancer: what is my future?”

The month of October is international breast cancer awareness month.

On Wednesday 13 October 2021 from 13:00 to 14:00 CET, the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer – Breast Cancer Group (EORTC BCG) and the Breast International Group (BIG against breast cancer) are organising a free one-hour Pink October webinar for the general public.

As 13 October is Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day, what better time than to draw attention to this advanced disease, for which there still is no cure.

Breast cancer is the most diagnosed cancer and it has overtaken lung cancer as the leading cause of cancer-related death in women across Europe. With early disease being potentially curable, nearly 10% of patients are diagnosed with advanced disease, and 20–30% of patients progress to metastatic breast cancer. Despite advancements in the understanding of the disease and potential new treatments, survival of women with metastatic breast cancer has not increased. Breast cancer specialists try to treat metastatic breast cancer as a chronic disease, providing treatments that manage the symptoms with the view of prolonging life. However, even with recent developments, quality of life of these patients have not substantially improved.

The objective of this educational webinar is to create further awareness around metastatic breast cancer and to discuss and inform the lay audience of challenges and recent developments through the research conducted by EORTC BCG and BIG.
