Since 1991 the EORTC has conducted a Fellowship Program designed to promote European clinical research by encouraging physicians and scientists from all over the world to stay for up to three years as research fellows at EORTC Headquarters in Brussels. Medical doctors, bio-statisticians, and other scientists are entitled to this fellowship program which is specifically linked to the EORTC Groups’ research program or specific research projects undertaken by EORTC Headquarters.

Access to human biological materials (HBM), such as tumor tissue, blood, saliva and derivatives such as RNA and DNA, in both sufficient quantity and quality is considered one of the major bottlenecks hindering successful bench to bedside translation. However, this does not need to be the case.

Both EORTC Headquarters and EORTC investigators are increasingly subject to routine Good Clinical Practice Inspections by Competent Authorities. Such inspections were foreseen by Directive 2001/20/EC, and the setting of the inspections was given more detail by Directive 2005/28/EC.

The safety of the patients in clinical trials is of paramount importance.
