Fellowship position in Quality of Life 2026-2029

As an independent, non-profit Cancer Research Organisation established under the laws of Belgium, its mission is to coordinate and conduct international translational and clinical research to improve the standard of cancer treatment for patients. EORTC aims ultimately to increase people’s survival and quality of life by testing new therapeutic strategies based on existing drugs, surgery, and radiotherapy. EORTC also helps develop new drugs and approaches in partnership with the pharmaceutical industry and in patients’ best interests. In addition to independence, EORTC is recognised for scientific and methodological rigor bringing robust datasets to doctors and patients for therapeutic improvement. EORTC covers all disciplines to fight against cancer. EORTC research leaves no one behind and addresses all patients, including patients with rare tumours and specific patient populations.

Position overview

The EORTC Quality of Life (QoL) Department offers a one-year research fellowship position (renewable to a maximum of 3 years) to support the EU-funded ResPECT ‘Generative AI Assistant A Paradigm Shift in Burden Assessment for Cancer and Mental Health Care’ study.

The ResPECT study aims to develop a trustworthy, end-user driven generative AI Virtual Assistant to capture patients’ experiences in their own words, support health care professionals with clear, actionable recommendations and provide health systems with real-time, equity-sensitive insights.

  • Learn about innovative methodologies in QoL and burden assessment
  • Work in a multi-disciplinary, international consortium involving patients, clinicians, researchers, and policy makers
  • Collaborate with leading experts in AI, oncology and outcomes research

Main responsibilities / Major Activities

  • Contribute to the day-to-day scientific activities of the ResPECT project within the QoL department under the supervision of senior staff
  • Support engagement with stakeholders, including participation in workshops, discussions and related activities
  • Assist in the development and refinement of methodologies and research approaches
  • Contribute to testing and validation activities, helping to improve processes and tools
  • Support data-related tasks, including analysis, documentation and reporting
  • Collaborate with international partners, including clinicians, AI developers, and PROM experts
  • Prepare and deliver presentations at consortium meetings and scientific events
  • Contribute to scientific publications, reports, and dissemination activities
  • Assist with other QoL and methodological research initiatives within the department

Profile

Essential:
  • A master’s or PhD degree in psychology, health sciences, medicine, statistics, or a related field
  • Experience with PRO and/or QoL research and strong interest in AI in clinical research
  • Knowledge of quantitative and/or qualitative research methodologies
  • Experience conducting systematic literature reviews
  • Ability to bridge communication between PRO experts, clinicians and AI specialists
  • Excellent communication skills in English (written and spoken)
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks in a proactive and efficient manner
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in an international and multidisciplinary research environment
Desirable:
  • Familiarity with clinical trials and/or observational health research
  • Experience in AI applications in healthcare
  • Experience in developing guidelines, scientific publications, and training materials

 

Location and working arrangement: Brussels, Belgium (EORTC Headquarters). EORTC offers a hybrid working arrangement, allowing a balance between remote (home) working and onsite presence.

Start date: Sept. 2026

Travel: travel to project meetings and opportunity to attend international conferences
