New EORTC President
On June 23rd, 2017, Professor Bertrand Tombal (Cliniques Universitaires Saint Luc, Brussels, Belgium) became the 17th President of the EORTC. He was nominated after Professor Roger Stupp (University Hospital, Zurich Switzerland) who prematurely terminated his second mandate after 5 years, due to his new activities at the Northwestern University in Chicago, USA.
Bertrand Tombal is a professor in Urology at Cliniques universitaires Saint Luc, Université catholique de Louvain, Brussels, Belgium. His primary field of interest is the treatment of genitourinary cancers. He has been a member of the EORTC for more than 15 years and has served as chairman of the GU cancer group between 2011 and 2015 and as chairman of the Clinical Trial Division and board member since 2015.
The serving Board of Directors (BoD) remains to complete its full mandate (2015-2018). The BoD will be renewed next year for the term 2018-2021. The full process will be synchronized again for the term 2021-2024.
We are deeply grateful to professor Roger Stupp who has accomplished so much and hands over to Bertrand Tombal a very active, healthy and successful organisation. We wish Professor Roger Stupp the best for his new American endeavours. We are convinced that Bertrand Tombal, to whom we dedicate all our wishes for success, will continue raising the profile of our growing organisation.
