Minister F. Vandenbroucke visits EORTC Headquarters to strengthen collaborative efforts in clinical cancer research

Brussels, 21 November 2024 – The European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) was honoured to welcome Minister Frank Vandenbroucke, Belgian Minister of Social Affairs and Public Health, to its headquarters in Brussels on 21 November 2024. This visit emphasised the ongoing commitment to optimise the way cancer treatments are used and improving patient outcomes through collaborative efforts.

During his visit, Minister Vandenbroucke and EORTC’s representatives discussed the latest advancements in cancer research and treatment. The discussions focused on the role of EORTC in clinical cancer research, the challenges in running independent clinical trials in the EU regulatory landscape, and the integration of cancer research and care.

Minister Vandenbroucke’s visit highlights the Belgian government’s dedication to supporting scientific research and fostering international collaborations.

Cancer research is a global challenge that requires a united effort. By working together, all stakeholders can accelerate access to efficient treatments and improve the quality of life for patients worldwide,” said Minister Vandenbroucke. He continues saying “We are proud for Belgium to host the headquarters of EORTC, a leading clinical cancer research organisation worldwide”.

EORTC CEO, Dr. Denis Lacombe, expressed his enthusiasm for the visit, stating, “We were delighted to host Minister Vandenbroucke and showcase the impactful work being done at EORTC. His support is invaluable in our mission to conduct high quality independent clinical research and provide better treatment options for patients.

The visit addressed ongoing priorities and the future of clinical cancer research in the EU to continue delivering therapeutic progress for all cancer patients. This event marks a significant step forward in the fight against cancer, reinforcing the importance and the value of independent research networks in the EU to contribute to the evolution of multidisciplinary standards of care.
