EORTC Imaging Group Becomes the Diagnostic and Therapeutic Imaging Group

The former EORTC Imaging Group has been rebranded as the EORTC “Diagnostic and Therapeutic Imaging” Group to better reflect the evolving role of imaging across the entire continuum of cancer care. The new name emphasizes the dual and increasingly interconnected dimensions of diagnostics and therapeutics that now shape modern oncologic imaging.

This evolution mirrors the growing integration of imaging modalities that not only detect and characterize disease, but also guide and deliver therapy. In particular, the emergence of theranostic approaches—where related molecular agents are used for both imaging and targeted treatment—has strengthened the convergence between diagnostic imaging, nuclear medicine, and therapeutic interventions. In parallel, image-guided procedures in interventional radiology and advances in radioligand therapy are further expanding the therapeutic dimension of imaging sciences.

The new identity also reflects the group’s commitment to advancing innovation in oncologic imaging research across EORTC trials, including the development and validation of quantitative imaging biomarkers, radiomics, artificial intelligence–driven analyses, molecular imaging approaches, and image-guided therapeutic strategies.

Members can expect future communications, scientific initiatives, educational activities, and collaborations to progressively reflect this updated identity and broadened mission.
